Hummus is a creamy, rich chickpea spread that has become a staple in Middle Eastern cuisine and a beloved dish worldwide. Its smooth texture, nutty tahini undertones, and bright hints of lemon and garlic make it a versatile dip for pita, a flavorful topping for vegetables, or a hearty addition to any mezze platter. Ingredients
- 1 can (400g) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 3 tbsp tahini
- 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for drizzling)
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (plus extra for garnish)
- 1/4 tsp ground coriander
- Salt to taste
- 2–3 tbsp water (to adjust consistency)
Instructions

Blend the Base:
Add the chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic to a food processor. Blend until smooth. -
Add Spices:
Sprinkle in the cumin, smoked paprika, ground coriander, and a pinch of salt. Blend again until the spices are fully incorporated. -
Adjust Consistency:
Add 2–3 tablespoons of water, one tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired hummus consistency. Blend well after each addition. -
Taste and Adjust:
Taste the hummus and adjust the salt or spices if needed. -
Serve:
Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with a little smoked paprika, and garnish with a few whole chickpeas or chopped parsley if desired. -
Enjoy:
Serve with warm pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a spread for sandwiches.
